The First Sign Of Summer

Visiting Edinburgh for a long weekend, and I’m out in the back garden when I hear the noise of an aircraft. It sounded very old, with a rather throaty sound. Looking up, I saw one of the most gorgeous aircraft in the world.

A Mk V Spitfire.

Now I’ve seen these at Airshows, both flying and static, but being underneath a single one, flying at about 200 feet was amazing, and the image of it is till fresh in mind. What a wonderful start to a lovely weekend!

Turns out there was an airshow at East Fortune Airfield and Museum which I didn’t know about. That explains in cold hard logic why a 50 year old fighter was powering around Edinburgh. Of course, the surprise and awe on seeing it un-announced is still as strong.
