3GSM Here I Come

3gsm_button.jpgSo after a little bit of wheeling and dealing on the internt , both Rafe and I are now definitly going down to “The Biggest Press Jolly Junket Of The Year,” which is more commonly known as 3GSM. Effectivly every mobile phone company, player, software house and a swarm of Venture Capitalists descend on Cannes, buying up all the airline tickets and pushing the Hotel Prices up.

So how Rafe and I have managed to find a 4 Bedroom Suite, on the Waterfront, at the ridiculously low price that we have is beyond me. Flights were a bit more difficult (and don’t forget that no mater what flights we do take, I have to get to that Airport from Edinburgh). So while the pointer that “Newcastle to Nice is only £80″ from Mr J may look good value, let’s add in the travel to Newcastle Airport, the two extra nights away from home that would need, and the transfer from Nice to Cannes, well it all adds up.

Rafe made the mental leap that’s got us down within the budget. Take the Train. Okay so a two hour Gatwick/Standstead to Nice flight might be four times faster, but add in an hour to get to the airport from central London, ninety minutes hanging around after checking in, and the wait for baggage at the other end and you’re up to five hours. Compare that cattle class trip to First Class on Eurostar then the French TGV - and the fact that Cannes station is around 6 minutes walk from our Hotel. Well, in my mind there’s no competition. Train it is.

Mind you, I’m trying not to think of how much fun the bargain bucket National Express £18 bus from Edinburgh to London will be.

So yes, it’s a little but McGyver-ing, but as with everything in the world, whatever happens in the background doesn’t matter as long as your front of house presentation is spot on. Basicallly we’ll be at Cannes - look for a swirling Kilt being chased down by a rather dapper Harry Potter / John Steed lookalike.
