Edinburgh bus drivers “on strike” say the council, with a “we’re not doing overtime” for the rest of the week. And I guess it depends on the contract, but I always assumed overtime should be a voluntary thing. Contracts which simply say that employees are “expected to do a reasonable amount of overtime” always strike me as the employer just not being able to plan his staffing effectivly. If there’s always hours to go round, hire more drivers.

Sony’s Flash MP3 Player range has had me tempted once or twice before to consider a second player alongside the minidisc, but when it comes down to £100 for a 1gig Flash MP3 player (even one with 70 hours of battery life) I just grab a £5 1gig minidisc which holds the same amount of music, and strap a single AA battery to the minidisc recorder to get the 70 hours.
