I’ll Buy Anything With An i At The Start

I… must… buy… a… £35… mouse. And it’s not even cordless! Steve Jobs must be taking lessons from Jerry Sadowitz, because the sleight of hand that he’s pulled off with the Mighty Mouse (isn’t that a cartoon chartacter trademark?) is nothing short of religious. There’s blog coverage all over the world, you’ve got people taking photographs as it’s being unpacked (yes Russ, I mean you)
OKay yes the idea of no buttons on a mouse is rather weird in a sort of futuristic retro way, but there’s already reports of problems - you can’t right click if your left finger is resting where the ‘button’ is, the top scroll nubbin is incredibly sensetive and there’s no turning that down. And most of all, Apple’s clean lines are spoiled by still having a wire attached.
There are far more ergonomic mice out there, with useful buttons in handy places for almost half the price. And they’re cordless. With laser scanners instead of red LED’s for movement. More and more Apple are cutting corners and bringing things to the market because of external pressure. And people label them as innovative.
Not that Jobbs hasn’t done this before. You don’t need a screen on your iPod, let it tell you what to listen to. Just sit back and let your computer take control of you life. If any other company tried this, they’d be crucified. Yet because of the ‘i’ factor it’s just accepted, and the price premium is paid for. What next? iMicrosoft? I just don’t get it.
