JohnPeel’s Perfumed Garden on SixMusic
BBC Radio SixMusic has a week of John Peel archive material (Monday 24th to Friday 28th October) available every night over the air at 2130, and then for seven days afterward on play again. Monday’s show is, amazingly, the first full length show he ever did for BBC Radio 1, “Top Gear.” It’s a fascinating listen – even then Peel has got Pink Floyd live in the studio.
Unfortunatly, it’s not a podcast. THe BBC haven’t found a miraculous way to get round the msuic licencing. They’re using a little quirk which means that anything broadcast on the BBC network can, within seven days, be repeated with no extra fee involved. So they can easily stream it from the website. BUt after seven days, the rights change and into the vaults it goes.
But there should be nothing stopping SixMusic doing a regular John Peel repeat. They’ve got everything (hopefully) on tape and could easily put them on at silly o’clock in the morning on the air, and then use “Listen Again.” Please…
