Audacious Podcast Predictions for 2006
“In one short year podcasting has gone from a gleam in the eyes of a couple of geeks to a place in the Oxford English Dictionary and the hearts of millions of listeners all over the globe. But what will 2006 bring for a medium which is being rapidly adopted by businesses and mainstream media alike? Audacious Communications, the UK creative communications agency that specialises in podcast consultancy and production, predicts the following…”
The Podcast Network or PodShow will be bought by AOL late in 2006 and the deal will allow commercial music to be played by all podcasts in the network.
Given Podshow has the Podsafe Music Network, the more logical minds would be on AOL approaching Curry – and lets face it AOL have a track record of buying in networks (cough Weblogs inc cough) and Podshow is going to need to float or be bought to return the VC money at some point. Given I’m part of TPN (The Podcast Network) I’ll neatly sidestep any AOL/TPN murmurs.
Virgin Radio will launch a digital radio station entirely devoted to airing independent music podcasts.
I thought Virgin Radio “Didn’t get it?”
The BBC will employ a podcaster in its push to discover and nurture new radio talent.
And it’ll probably be someone London based.
BAFTA will include podcasts in an interactive media category, following the move of its Scottish counterpart in 2005.
Been there, done that, got the nomination!
