Sounds of the Sixties

One of the radio shows that I always make a point of listening to either, either live on Saturday morning or on the BBC Radio listen again feature is Brian Matthew’s Sounds of the Sixties. The last few shows have seen Brian take time away from the microphone to recover from illness. I wish him well. Standing in for him is Johnnie Walker. An dfor some reason, this has made me feel a little bit off kilter.

Why? Well the reason became clear to me today – Walker is now doing my dream job. Sounds of the Sixties is a show that does everything I think a music show should do. A lot of variety in the music, with well known tracks, unknowns, popular music and the occasional surprise track. Competitions, dedications and interaction (by letter mainly it has to be said), and the personality of the host shining through.

Brian, get well soon. The show isn’t quite the same without you. And while I know it would be something I would jump on to host, I know I’d have a very hard time – so congrats also to Walker for doing so well.
