Do You Twitter?
Sharp eyed readers who come to the blog homepage will have spotted the new sidebar paragraph entitled “What Am I Up To?” This blog within a blog is driven by Twitter, a service (brought to you by the people behind Odeo and Pyra) that on first look is just way to simple to be anything useful. Which in fact is wrong, the pure simplicity is what appeals to me.
You can blog at most 147 characters (slightly less than text message) and you can post either through the massive friendly dialog box on the website, through a number of IM clients, or by an SMS from your phone. You sign up, find your friends, and you then get a river of short posts from all your friends to see what they are up to.
If UK readers can remember the first few months of the SMS service Locust, it’s just like that. Perhaps that’s why I love it so much (especially as you can toggle it to send you each message from your friends to you over SMS to your mobile). It’s one of those concepts that sounds super silly, but wonderfull in practice.
