TPN Rock Takeover - Bringing an Edge Back to TPN Rock!

At the end of October 2005, after a rather long search and a bit of organised chaos, I started to expand TPN Rock to become a haven for Rock Music fans, and the second step was the announcement of Iain Foulds (the first being the change from “TPN Rock” to “The Friday Rock Show on TPN Rock.” Just a little bit of organic growth, adding in more shows per week, without having the quality diluted.

Then Iain has to go and spoil it all by emigrating to Bethel, Alsaka, a town that has a 28.8K dial up modem in the local library… and not much else! Which is a bit of a showstopper for a podcaster, and a growing channel. So time to turn that threat into an opportunity, and introduce the alternative Monday show.

The model behind this show is a mix of “Saturday Night Live” and the post-Deayton “Have I Got News For You.” Every week, I’m going to invite some of my favourite podcasters and personalities to do a one-off show, no other strings, no long term committments, just sit down., play some cracking music, and entertain the world - the fact that we both get a massive boost of cross-promotion is a bonus (after all, if a 30 second trailer gets attention, what’s a 30 mintue cast going down both feeds going to be like?).

Of course this idea has (partially) been tried before on TPN Rock, with the Accident Mash shows where I hooked up with CC Chapman (www.accidenthash.com), so I know the mixing of listeners works. Just a matter now of going one step further. Oh and if you’re expecting CC at some point, well, you might wait a bit. The Mashes are special, so no polluting that little name. But what you can expect is people who aren;t normally music podcasters, and this is the bit I’m most looking forward to. I’ve told them to keep The Revolutions as the theme music, but to htne go and do their own thing. So you might get a solid 30 mintue music mix, or a sound collage from the host, or… well who knows. That’s the point.

The rush I got listening to Paul’s voice over TPN Rock, and the expectancy of what music he would play was amazing. I have to remind myself that’s what it’s like for the listeners to my show every week. And that’s why the music scene right now is so exciting.
