Where Is Austin’s Knowledge?

Something I’ve noticed in Austin is the complete lack of knowledge from taxi drivers about their local area. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled having lived in London, and expect a cab picked up in Baron’s Court to recognise the four house sidestreet that I want to go home to in the north of Walthamstow. Yet ask an Austin Cab driver for one of the larger clubs downtown, or the local hotel, or even the exact address of where I’m staying and they’re completely lost and spend an age trying to punch in a GPS, or try and rember, or even expect me to direct them.

The Knowledge should be a given in every city.
