My (First and) Latest Podcast User Magazine Column

It’s the first of the month, so that means the lates issue of Podcast User Magazine is here. The PDF based magazine for podcasters, listeners and interested parties. And Dave Winer. But it’s an issue with a difference, thanks to both Mark Hunter taking the helm, and two new columnists – Julien Smith and Ewan Spence (that would be me).

Podcast User Magazine, Issue 16 Sampler

I’m not going to spoil the surprise of the column, head on over to download issue 16, read it yourself, and all feedback is appreciated.

Congrats on the article. Of course this post would be even better with a hyperlink to download the magazine…hint..hint…

Sorry was the link called “head on over to download issue 16″ to subtle a direct link to the PDF? (smiles)

I’ve never forgiven Winer for getting me drunk in a Sutton pub about 12 years ago.

Ok, he didn’t actually force me to drink far too much Winter Warmer, but he was there, so blaming him seems the right choice.

Hate to moan but the article sucks, as a reader of PUM i was hoping to learn something interesting or be amused. What i got was a poorly written, self-promoting wannabee pile of crap. “These personal connections are what drive podcasting as a whole, and drive the ever-changing new-media landscape” Come on get real, it may be what drives you in your bedroom studio but money makes the world go round. Ewan – What was the goal of the article? I guess i could forgive you due to it being your first article but Julian Smith managed a decent debut article. Wisen up Ewan!

Debbie, thanks for the comments, I’ll take that on board, and let’s see if I can address those points you raise. In terms of self-promoting I did my best to pull this back (and I’m sure if I had overstepped the mark, Mark would have pulled me back). Is it what drives me in the bedroom? Well yes it does. Should I ‘wisen up as money makes the world go round?”

You know something? I know that. And given I’m one of those podcasters for whom podcasting is their day job, whos podcast has been supported by the likes of Motorola, Canon and The Stage (to name three) I fully understand the podcasting business.

In Western Society we’re in a privileged time of history. We don’t have to fight and hunt to survive, and neither do we have to solve the crap we’ve done to the planet. We’re in the small window where we can evolve culturally, and I think that’s amazingly important.
