Northern Ireland Assembly Works - Scottish Parliament Doesn’t
Posted on May 8, 2007

Today the Northern Irish Assembly was opened with the Rev. Ian Paisley (Ulster Unionist) and Martin McGuinness (Sinn Fein) sharing power as First Minister and Deputy First Minister respectivly. A decade ago these two would metaphorically have happily ripped each other’s throats out if they thought they’d get away with it.

Today the Scottish Parliament convened and then immediatly delayed proceedings until Monday because the MSP’s couldn’t agree who would be the Presiding Officer (Chair of the Parliament) let alone which party would be in charge and who would be First Minister. They just bickered a lot even when the SNP and the Liberal Democrats had 99.95% common ground in their Manifestos.
Dear Holyrood. Put aside petty political differences and do something for the country. Now.
