Airbus Congratulate Boeing – It’s Good To Talk!

Great to see that Airbus sent a message to Boeing for the launch of the 787 Dreamliner, and even better to see Boeing acknowledging this on their blog.

it can be difficult to pick the aircraft type you fly on, but when I’m offered my flight options, I will tend to go for a 777 for my transatlantoic flights (and then the MD-80 for US internals, but that’s just because I like the twin seats in the Mad Dog) so when the 787 does come into regular service, I’ll be ointerested to see what Boeing have done.

But for now, while the press is trying to pitch the companies at each other’s throats, it’s nice to see some civility from the organisations. Nice one!

I always like flying on the 777, specially knowing the plane can fly on one engine and the wings are capable of bending 150% over the design specification.

I was speaking to someone in the air industry on a flight down to London a couple of months ago. He was saying that the new fuses on planes like 787 are so strong that the force to break them would surpass the forces humans could actually stand.

Jamie, indeed the carbon fibre wings are immense, but really I think they’ll design some of ha out. There’s no point in having the wings able to take 400% of load when the fuselage rips open at 165%. The wings jsut need to go to 165% :-)
