…The Episode Where the Americans Give Ewan a Gun…

Title says it all really. I may be back home (finally) for a week or so, but while in LA, I was taken out to Burbank Shooting Range to try my hand at some handguns - little did the Americans know I already had some experience with things that go bang…

It’s something I always regret not doing when I head over to America. I’m planning SXSW next year, so perhaps then…

I mean, I see enough people who’ve been shot - it’d be fun to get some idea of how hard it is to get those little balls of lead inside people.

I keep meaning to do this as well. I really should in the next few weeks, but doubt I’ll be videoing it.

I know this sounds potentially rather daft, but when I was learning to handle guns (mostly shotguns) the rule that you never pointed a gun at a human being was drummed into me so hard that I think I’d find shooting at human shaped targets a wee bit disconcerting.

Admittedly, handguns are pretty much pointless for shooting anything but a human being (or a paper target), but I’d still be uncomfortable.

Tom, I’m looking at my third year at SXSW, buzz me for any advice. In short though out to 15m it’s relatively easy to hit a man sized, hitting something vital (not counting hydrostatic shock) is a bit trickier

Rachel, would recommend it at least once. Find a club member in the office before you depart?

Piers. It’s not daft at all, I can agree 100% given I was trained by the RAF at 25m out to 900m. But when in Rome… What I do know is that all the range discipline kicked in immediatly, breathing is the same, and the simple ’squeeze not pull’ guaranted Sam going “ehrm, you hit the paper every time - thats impressive.”

I still prefer long range full bore.

In my year in the german army, we used to have a higher hit rate when we threw the guns at the target ;) (15m range, P1)
