You Scumbag, You Maggot, You Cheap Lousy Faggott… Now Go Buy It.

Look it’s a simple request for the UK reader. Go out and buy “The Fairytale of New York” before Saturday 22nd December. If you can’t get out to the shops, head over to the UK iTunes store. Now.

Kirsty

Why? Well the greatest song ever (not the greatest Christmas song ever, the greatest song ever. Period) is back on the march again. Twenty years after it’s first release it’s back in the Charts, and commentators on the music industry reckon that even the ‘rightful’ X-Factor Pop Idol Cover version christmas number one slot is in danger from the drunken tones of Shane MacGowan and the late great Kirsty MacColl. Yes, MacColl and the Pouges could finally sneak the Christmas Number One after the all these years.

With all the manufactured pop going around, with the merchandise and commercialisation of the christmas charts from Simon Cowell et al, this is the chance to stop, say no, and put a proper tune into the rightful place. DOn;t even get me started on Radio 1 banning the word ‘faggot’ from the song.

Now is the year to rid Fairytale of ‘best song to never be number one.’

(And of course the timing of this, 18th December, will not be lost on Kirsty fans)
