You’re Worth What People Will Pay For You
Memories of the crazy Facebook ‘valuation’ spring to mind on reading Silicon Alley Insider’s breakdown on how much they think Craigslist could be worth (answer, anywhere between $750 million and $5 billion). Do we here a ‘ding!’
Nope. Because while evaluation is all well and good, you;re only worth what someone will pay for you. The negotiating table is a cruel mistress, and just because you’ve got some number from a shareholding many months or years ago. Maybe we should stop calling them ‘valuations’ and use ‘aspirations’ instead?
