First semi-final for Eurovision starts, and Twitter goes down (http://www.istwitterdown.com/ always useful), and potenially the only sighting of Dustin the Turkey this year. Who am I going to cyber bitch to know - now that Slovenia’s answer to The Rani has taken to the stage?
Update: All the songs are over, my picks for the nine voting places (the tenth is chosen by a jury) are Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia Herzegovena, Greece, Andorra, Slovenia, Netherlands and Finland. I’ve not considered Ireland, because frankly it’s either going to do a Lordi and sweep everything away, or a Jemini and be swept away like a Bernard Matthews Turkey Roast…
Update 2: Of my nine picks, six went through, namely Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia Herzegovena, Greece and Finland. I missed Norway, Israel, Romania and Poland. Oh and why I only picked nine? Because only nine were voted on, the tenth is a pick by a jury. No word yet on which was the jury pick.
I’m kind of disappointed that Andorra’s “Cassanova” didn’t get through, but to be honest the performance was a lot flatter than that on the Eurovision CD. As to Ireland, it’s clear that it just couldn’t pick up the popular votes from those countries that take Eurovision seriously… ie everyone bar Ireland and the UK!
I’ll probably be out on Thursday night and miss the second semi-final, but see you all for Saturday. Fingers crossed Twitter returns in time.
