The History of Accident Mash (and Mash #5 on Inauguration Day)

To go alongside today’s main event (you know, another Accident Mash being released…) I though I would make sure you all knew where the previous ‘mash’ shows can be found and downloaded, plus a quick postage stamp of the flavour of each show.

As to the recording of a Mash, this is my end of the equation…

Recording Accident Mash

Accident Mash #1

Recorded at the PodcastDay2006 in Cologne, this was CC’s first trip outside of the US, and we were both stoked to meet up in the flesh (after having meat at the first Portable Media Expo the previous year). I had a wild idea that we should record a joint show, and the rest is history.

Accident Mash #2

The plan at the next Portable Media Expo was to grab some time, as we did in Germany, to record a second show. A nice plan, that we singularly failed to implement. So we put our hats on, and faked it when we got back to Boston and Edinburgh.

Accident Mash #3

Knowing we could do a show ‘remotely’ we set ourself up to do a Christmas Show, just a few months after the Expo, and we could talk about the plans we had for SXSW coverage, Crayon and the phrase “telsa coil based shocking dildos…”

Accident Mash #4

And then there was the Mash that we finally recorded at the last Ontario Podcast Media Expo. It was the end of the last night that had the feel of an end of an era (looking back, we were right), and Linda Mills asked “why haven’t you two done a Mash???” At which I looked at CC, CC said “we have no music” and Linda pointed at all our favourite artists sitting around that table. Five minutes later we’d MacGyvered a mixing desk and recording, and were poolside with a live crowd all joining in.

And now we have Mash #5, as Barack Obama takes office, which also needs a celebration.

And here’s to hopefully many more!
