Gerald Wiley and the Eurovision Song Contest
It wasn’t just the United Kingdom that chose their Song for Europe this weekend. Both Finland and Belgium chose their singers and songs on Saturday, while other countries had more semi finals, finals and eliminations.
And then there’s Belgium. They had already decided on the act to sign for them, De Toppers, but there’s been a massive hunt for the right song for them to sing. The final choice was made this weekend, and they’ll be singing Shine in Moscow.
The song was composed by Ger van de Westelaken – or at least that was what everyone thought until the press conference, where Gordon of De Toppers confided that it was actually his song under a pseudonym. He hadn’t even told the rest of the band, because he wanted to give each song an equal chance.
Shades of Gerald Wiley anyone?
