Why I Love Twe2, and Why I’m Avoiding It

I really want Twe2 to work. Ever since Twitter turned off SMS delivery for UK users of the microblogging service, the value of Twitter while out and about, especially while at a conference, has been lessened. Sure there have bee improvements in other areas, but a push service for DM’s or @replies is still sorely needed.

It was one of the features that made Twitter the breakout success at SXSW 2007 in my opinion, and the loss of it last year did impact on my plans. Would I pay Twitter to get back DM and @ replies? Yes. But they won’t take the money.

Neither will Twe2, but they will inject advertising into the SMS messages which will carry my forwarded messages. I’m cool with that (you hear me Twitter? I’m cool with that). What I’m not happy about is handing Twe2 my password to the account.

They’ve said they’ll be allowed to test the upcoming OAuth service – and when that happens, I’ll be there. Till then, I’ll remain data safe and information poor.
