The story behind the fifth anniversary show of Accident Hash
Now that it’s aired I can breathe again that the surprise was not ruined by anyone.
While doing the Christmas Switcheroo Podcast with CC Chapman I noticed the number of the show was going to be #298. And I just knew that the fifth anniversary of CC’s Accident Hash music show was on January 10th (he’s one of the few podcasters who started before me!).
And one of those “let’s do something crazy” moments formed in my head. What if all of the musicians, fans, friends and fellow podcasters who knew CC put together a tribute show, with dedications, new music, thoughts and messages for him? I guess I had to give it a little nudge and do some herding. The only way to manage something that big was to give it a section in my Filofax…
To be honest, given the mails and contacts were going out during the holidays I knew a lot of people would miss the call to action. Given I was asking the artists if they could provided some unreleased tracks, archive material or even write and compose new songs for the show, I had my fingers crossed that the musical backbone of the show would come together. And it did.
The elements fell into place late on Thursday night (including a subtle nudge to CC that he should record show #299 to make sure all the numbers lined up – had to be a bit sneaky there, sorry), and I sprung the surprise on Friday morning over a Skype call.
But what to do with the show? Between us we decided to hold off listening to it till the actual anniversary, but make it even more of a community event by streaming the video of CC listening to the show for the first time, and invite everyone into the room.
It went better than I could have ever hoped.
The recording of the stream is archived on Ustream, and the show itself is on Accident Hash so even if you did miss it, you haven’t!
