That was the BlogWorldExpo 2010 that was
And so I’m all wrapped up on American Airlines who are taking me home from another US trip, this time after attending the Blog World and New Media Conference. Having been at this conference with the always changing name since 2005 (I remember when it was the PME) it’s been interesting to watch the changes in the companies in the space, the people involved, and the merging of blogging, podcasting and streaming into a holistic whole of "publishing".
As always I’ve met new people at the conference with their own valid ideas of how it all works, as well as reconnecting in person with many old friends (and strangely the US Border Patrol agent at the LA Arrivals desk who also recognised me – not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing to be honest). Previous conferences have seen me speaking at the conference or reporting on news from the show floor, but this year was a little bit different.
I was looking for a bit of a mental recharge for my podcasting, a mix of validation and to make sure I wasn’t missing anything obvious that’s passed me by. The good news is the one area that I know I’m not covering (video) is pretty much the only major missing thing. So I’m glad I’m not missing anything there. Are the batteries charged up again? I think so.
Unfortunately two areas that I’m looking to explore in the near future, which appeared to be served by panels at the Conference weren’t adequately covered for my liking. I really should know better that a panel presentation can’t get into the nitty gritty depth that I would like them to get into, but I’m always optimistic that it’ll be different this time. It’s more like attending a University lecture and then going off to explore an area in the library, but these two panels were very superficial to the point of uselessness.
Oh yes and any mention of "the state of X", "how to succeed with Apps" or anything to do with legal issues had a huge American bias which is understandable given the location of the conference but it’s a potential warning bell to Rick, Dave and the rest of the team. It’s a big world out there!
Now what? Well watch this blog and my podcasts for some changes over the next three months or so, and I’ll likely see you all in Vegas next year around the same time.
