NBA opens up all player stats API for free #

One of the important things people can do with open data projects is build interesting things and add value with their hacks, tools, and utilities. Big projects give confidence to the organisation that released the data, but also show other organisations why it’s a ‘really good idea’. While I might not be a huge NBA fan, I can’t wait to see what basketball fans are going to do with every number, ever, since World War 2.

As a part of its All Star celebration, which just capped yesterday, the NBA unwrapped a gift to stats nerds everywhere: access to a comprehensive database of every box score and for every game ever played, and individual statistics for every player throughout the league’s history, since its first season in 1946.
