A quick shout out for Mitch Benn’s Christmas album, now available on Bandcamp:
I’ve written many Christmas songs over the years, for the radio show to which I contribute or just because I felt like it. In 2009 I first put this collection together for download and I’ve revised it a couple of times since when I’ve written new ones.
I liked the idea of releasing a Christmas album consisting entirely of original compositions; while I like Christmas songs and I get why artists release Christmas albums, they do tend to consist of covers of the same dozen or so songs over and over again. Do we really need another twenty ropey versions of Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire every year?
A few of these tracks (notably ‘Broke The Bank This Christmas‘) are in my personal ‘must be that time of year again’ playlists, and let’s be honest, it’s pay £8 for this and support the indie artists, or go and buy another copy of ‘Now That’s What I Call Christmas’ because you can’t find the copy you bought last year…
